Garden update: March

This past weekend, I got to get dirt under my fingernails and work my garden for the first time in 2021. It's a soothing process vital to my mental health. This year, Joel helped plant some of the seedlings. It was a nice way of bonding with him seeing a thing I love through his own eyes and experience. So far what we have planted is a ton of herbs (basil, dill, oregano, parsley, and peppermint), sunflowers, peas, and candytufts. Left to plant so far are carrots, chives, and various flowers,

While buying gardening supplies, I also got a lavender bush (pictured above). It's a hardy little thing that is growing noticeably bigger each day. It seemed a bit peeved when I transferred it to a bigger pot but seems to be thriving now. The clippings make our apartment smell amazing.

Two things that surprised me were some plants that bounced back after last year. I bought some mums last fall, and when the blossoms withered, promptly forgot about it. Meanwhile that sucker had been living his best life over the winter! I honestly forgot that mums were a perennial. And there's something sprouting in an old planter that I noticed today. If memory serves me, it's a failed attempt at amaranth , not realizing they can grow up to six feet tall. I reckon here's attempt number two. We're gonna need a bigger boat!

I don't know what I would do without my plants. I dream of a garden.
