Here are some zines that I've enjoyed this week:
I'm Using This Money to Buy a Gun - This zine by Most Exalted didn't have to go this hard but it did. I feel like it's a little difficult to review this objectively, since he's a friend of mine and some of my dear friends are subjects of the photo portions. But I firmly believe that I'd love this even if everyone was a stranger to me. IUTMBG consists of a series of portraits and a personal essay about grief and complicated relationships. I love how he captures the personalities of the photo subjects so well. It's worth pouring over and giving a couple of good reads to digest it. (purchase here)
Fag Enabler #1 - This zine reminded me of the ones I read in the 90s/early 2000s in my youth in the best sort of way. Reappropriating a Westboro Baptist insult, Fag Enabler is the kind of perzine that I've always enjoyed. In one part, Jimmy takes on slut shaming and nonmonogamy. There's also a mini interview with the lead singer of Jack Off Jill, Jessicka Addams. (purchases here)
404 Magazine #2 - I love the concept of this zine, which is a tribute to the zen-like accidental poetry created by computer pop ups. There's some original poetry, too. This is a good bus/train/public transportation companion. (purchase here)
